ForkView: camera system for forklifts makes material handling efficient

Save valuable time and reduce the risk of accidents with the ForkView camera system for forklifts. This robust and compact camera monitor system from Stoneridge-Orlaco provides the driver of a forklift or reach truck with a perfect view of the fork. ForkView therefore increases safety in the warehouse, saves time when moving goods and creates a more ergonomic environment for drivers.

Increases safety

Poor visibility around forklifts is one of the most common causes of accidents in the workplace. The cause is often poor visibility. When a forklift truck is carrying a load, the front area is completely obscured, which creates a number of blind spots. Fitting cameras to a forklift increases safety by giving the driver direct visibility of the floor in front of the truck. Cameras provide a clear view of obstacles and of areas that would otherwise be blind spots, helping to prevent accidents.

Improves ergonomics

The ergonomically positioned monitor allows drivers to adopt a natural viewing position, which means they no longer have to look up at an awkward angle. The image on the monitor gives the driver a clear view from the fork. This relieves strain on the neck and shoulder muscles, reducing absence caused by sickness and increasing productivity.

Robust quality

ForkView consists of a camera, a monitor and a dynamic cable. The entire camera system is waterproof, shockproof and works in the most extreme temperatures (-40°C to +85°C). ForkView is therefore suitable for the most demanding of conditions, such as in cold stores.

Work twice as fast

A camera system gives drivers a better view, which saves time and increases productivity. A driver can work twice as fast using ForkView as without a camera system. The camera system therefore quickly pays for itself by reducing damage and increasing efficiency and driver comfort.

Digital Mid-Mast View with EMOS & ELED

With the Digital Mid-Mast View system, the EMOS camera is mounted on the mast cross-beam of the innermost mast section. The 7” ELED heavy-duty monitor is mounted on the frame of the forklift truck’s cab. The system allows the driver to position the truck optimally as it provides a view of the forks after free lift. Since the camera ‘looks’ underneath the forks, the driver also has a good view of the beams when putting the pallet down.

Multiple vision solutions

Stoneridge-Orlaco has developed various vision systems for forklift trucks. Depending on the application, the driver's requirements and the type of forklift, the available options are, View-on-forks and Mid-mast view.

Fork view

Fork view is mounted on the inside of the fork. Its special shape and rugged housing ensure that the camera is not damaged when loading or unloading pallets. The opening angle of 51 degrees provides the driver with a clear view of both the left-hand and right-hand forks. The driver looks down the forks and sees directly on the monitor whether or not the fork is appropriately positioned, ensuring forks are inserted into the pallet openings correctly. Fork view is suitable for reach trucks and side loaders.

View-on-forks

With the View-on-forks system, the camera is mounted on or under the fork carriage. This system gives the driver a clear view of the forks or other attachments, so that the truck can be positioned optimally. This allows goods to be picked up or put down correctly on the first attempt. The View-on-forks system is suitable for reach trucks, counterbalance trucks and side loaders. The camera system is also suitable for other attachments. It can be used on equipment such as rotators, paper roll clamps and roll prongs.

Mid-mast view

With the Mid-mast view system, the camera is mounted on the mast cross-beam of the innermost mast section. This allows the driver to position the truck optimally as it provides a view of the forks after free lift of the machine. Since the camera 'looks' underneath the forks, the driver also has a good view of the beams when putting the pallet down. The Mid-mast view system is particularly suitable for reach trucks.

Cameras

A CFMC, CPH, FAMOS or EMOS Ethernet camera is used, depending on the application. All cameras have a highly light-sensitive Advanced CMOS sensor. This gives the best possible image under all conditions.

CFMC forklift camera
The CFMC camera is a heavy-duty camera made of special stainless steel and is mounted on the inside of the fork. This camera is used for Fork view systems on reach trucks and side loaders.

CPH pinhole camera
The CPH camera is an extremely heavy-duty camera that is mounted on the fork carriage or inner mast section. This camera is used for View-on-forks and Mid-mast view systems on reach trucks and side loaders.

FAMOS compact camera
The FAMOS camera is a versatile camera that can be mounted in different locations on the mast or fork carriage. These cameras are used for View-on-forks and Mid-mast view systems on reach trucks, side loaders or forklifts.

EMOS Ethernet camera
The EMOS Ethernet camera is a versatile real-time digital camera that can be mounted in different locations on the mast or fork carriage. These cameras are used for View-on-forks and Mid-mast view systems on reach trucks, side loaders or forklifts.

Cables

Stoneridge-Orlaco uses dynamic multi cables in its fork view systems. These are specially designed for dynamic applications where the cable is constantly subject to bending or rolling. The cables are therefore ideally suited for use on cable reels and in the masts of forklift trucks. The shielded cables meet high EMC requirements, are oil resistant and have molded waterproof connectors.

Dynamic multi cable
The dynamic 4-pole multi cable is used for analog systems. This flexible cable is suitable for feeding through the mast and cable reels.

Dynamic GMSL multi cable
The dynamic GMSL multi cable is used for digital GMSL systems. This flexible cable is suitable for feeding through the mast and cable reels.

Monitors

The robust monitors from Stoneridge-Orlaco are shock and vibration-proof and automatically adjust the brightness of the image to the ambient light. They also continue to work optimally when subjected to large temperature fluctuations, making them suitable for use in cold stores, for example. It is possible to add marker lines to each camera for optimal distance determination or positioning. All monitors are fitted with special clamp brackets.

RLED monitor
The 7" RLED monitor is a heavy-duty monitor that is mounted on the frame of the forklift truck's cab. This monitor is suitable for analog systems.

ELED Ethernet monitor
7"ELED monitor is a heavy-duty monitor that is mounted on the frame of the forklift truck's cab. This monitor is suitable for digital systems.

Client case: Work faster and safer with cameras on fork lifts

On a daily basis, 15 to 20 trailers are loaded with railing, grids, and other outdoor security products at Heras in Oirschot. Due to the fact that fork lifts, side loaders and four way forklifts are nowadays equipped with cameras, operations are safer, more efficient and the number of damages has decreased. “We have been using cameras since 2012”, logistics coordinator Fons Heeffer says. “We then purchased the first Linde lift trucks with attachments. Very pleasant to work with, but the forks are positioned in a way that blocks the operator’s view. When the forkcarriage is on eye level, you’re basically working blind. Lifting a pallet with reach forks that are 5,5 centimeters thick without damaging the truck’s load or wiring is difficult”.

“If a person is behind the truck, the camera shows it immediately. The operators can also maneuver more easily and turn along the stands, because surroundings are always perfectly displayed on the monitor”
