Bringing Excavator Blind Spots into the Picture with a Digital Rear-View Camera System

With the hydraulic boom on the right and the motor and pump compartment situated behind the cab, excavator operators have a restricted view of the area next to and behind the machinery. Fitting a digital camera and monitor system gives operators an optimum view of the working area around the machinery.

Optimum View with a Single Camera
The new digital camera and monitor system from Stoneridge-Orlaco consists of a heavy-duty digital High Resolution HMOS camera and an HLED 7" High Definition digital monitor. The 180° wide-angle lens brings both the side and the rear into the picture using a single camera, ensuring that operators always have a clear view of people, vehicles and other obstacles in the vicinity of the vehicle. Fitting a rear-view camera to an excavator not only allows operators to reverse more safely but also provides them with a better view of the working area when maneuvering. This means that drivers can take preventive action immediately in the event of a hazardous situation.

Digital Quality
The HMOS camera and HLED monitor use GMSL technology. GMSL stands for Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link. With this technology, the video signal is transmitted digitally and compression free via a coaxial cable. Providing gigabit connectivity and a high bandwidth, GMSL is suitable for transmitting digital HD video for vehicle applications. The video signal is not compressed before being transmitted, which means that there is no transmission delay. The image is displayed on the monitor in real time without any time lag. And thanks to the digital quality, the picture unfolding around the vehicle is brought into razor-sharp focus.
