Safety Side View increases transport safety
04-01-2010Intelligent camera system prevents damage - Drivers working with the newly introduced camera system ‘Safety Side View’ are less accident-prone than their colleagues who still have to manage without this intelligent camera system. Experiences with this camera system since its introduction at the end of 2007 show that this is the case.

‘Safety Side View’ therefore does exactly what Koninklijke Nooteboom Trailers has developed the camera system for: helping drivers to deliver a wide load at its destination safely and without damage. For one and a half years now the ‘Safety Side View’ camera system has been available as an option package for Nooteboom’s latest generation of low-loaders, the patented Pendel-X Euro low-loader. When a wide load is carried on a low-loader, the protruding load will obstruct the driver’s view to such an extent that he can no longer see where the wheels of the rear axle are going. Especially when negotiating a corner and the vehicle swings out quite a bit at the rear due to the steered axles, it is down to the judgment and years of experience of the driver. The increasing traffic intensity means the driver could often do with an extra pair of ‘eyes’! ‘Safety Side View’ comes to the rescue.
With ‘Safety Side View’ two cameras, one on either side, are fitted as standard on the axle assembly in front of the foremost axle. As soon as the driver takes a left corner, the camera on the right hand side will be activated, because this is where the rear of the vehicle will swing out.
| The driver can see on a screen in his cab where his wheels are going. He can see exactly how much room there is left between his vehicle and e.g. a traffic sign or traffic light that is positioned just on that corner. The camera has a special viewing angle to enable the driver to make the best possible estimate of the distance. ‘Safety Side View’ can be expanded with a third camera as option. This camera will be mounted at the rear of the low-loader. As soon as the driver begins to reverse, the system will activate his screen and send the images from the camera to the cabin. Nooteboom ‘Safety Side View’ responds to the growing demand inthe market for devices to improve transport safety. |
